Want a happier and more fulfilling year this year? After 2020, who wouldn’t, right?
What we’d recommend is to skip making New Year’s Resolutions. Yep – no resolutions this year.
But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to get better or your life to get better, or that you’re just going to sit back and have life happen to you.
Does this sound like you? Most people around New Year's Eve sit down and “commit” to a list of things to accomplish for the year. Maybe it’s around losing weight, working out more, saving money, getting organized, or another area of your life you want to improve.
You think to yourself this is going to be a great year, and start out with great energy and great intentions.
Then a few weeks in you give up or forget or fall off the wagon. Then you start beating yourself up and in a worse spot than before you made that resolution.
Then the next New Year's Eve rolls around and you can't even remember what I wrote down last year – but you sit down and do it again. This year will be different, right?
This year - if you skip making resolutions and take this advice – will be different. You can have your Best Year Ever.
You will accomplish more.
Do more.
Become the person your past resolutions wanted you to be.
All by asking yourself this question: Who do I want to be?
Maybe you’ve never thought of it before, and maybe you just don’t know how to answer that. But really think about it. Who is the person you want to become?
Here’s where to start – with your list of resolutions. They have hidden in them who you want to become.
Take the first resolution, read it, and then ask yourself, “Why?”
For example, if you want to lose 25 lbs this year, ask yourself why. Why do you want to lose 25 lbs? Maybe you want to feel better about yourself. But why? Maybe because you’re sick of getting winded playing with your kids in the backyard. Why is that important? Maybe it’s because you had a parent that wasn’t active because they didn’t maintain a healthy lifestyle, and you want to be different.
Boom! There it is! You have gotten to the core.
And that reason will motivate you far more than losing 25 lbs will. It will help keep you on track.
So who do you want to be? Do you want others to notice you are happier this year? Do you want to be promoted at work? Do you want to be healthier? Do you want to be more generous?
Once you figure out who you want to be, and figure out your “Why” then you will do what it takes to get there! It’s easy to make excuses and grab that donut when your goal is 25 lbs by saying, “I’ll just work out extra tomorrow.” But when your goal is to be a healthy parent, you’ll find yourself saying No to that donut!
So ask yourself who do you want to be in 2021. It can make all the difference this year.
