Meet Elisabeth
A compassionate guide through life's hardest seasons — and a reminder that growth is always possible.

Elisabeth Stokes, LISW-S

Hi, I’m Elisabeth, a licensed independent social worker with a commitment to empowering others to navigate seasons and changes in life.

I have 30-plus years of experience providing counseling and practical strategies to individuals and families within the healthcare system. I bring compassion and expertise to clients dealing with chronic illness, trauma, their own or a family member's terminal illness, and all phases of loss, mourning, and grief.I understand that as humans we experience sadness not only when someone dies, but when we lose things of importance to us, including our previous health status or our roles in family, career, or community. I also recognize that family caregivers experience unique types of intense emotion and stress, and I am an understanding guide for people caring for a loved one with dementia or for an aging parent.

In a culture that encourages us to numb big emotions, I encourage you instead to trust and truly feel your feelings, and discover ways to express and integrate changes and grief. I believe in each person’s ability to find meaning in all stages of life, and through narrative and strength based approaches I will be a guide to empower you on your journey.

I have experience helping clients craft their own rituals of healing and release as they move forward while remembering what is lost, whether that be a person, a role, or a part of your life that no longer fits you.

I place special value on helping women discover uplifting emotional energy through the seasons of their lives, with a focus on helping clients discover personal meaning,

confidence, and even celebration during all phases of menopause, as well as through the launching of adult children .

Love of nature and nature’s wisdom is a foundational part of my practice. I frequently use evidence-based stress management techniques that include outdoor observation, sensory awareness, and guided imagery. I believe all of us have a personal relationship with landscape, plants, and animals that can help us feel safe and grounded. If you are interested in exploring this area, I offer ways to let nature and rewilding enhance your life.

I am confident that every person can evolve positively throughout life, despite challenges. I believe this not only because of experience with hundreds of clients, but with knowledge from my own life journey. I have experienced and grown immensely through a difficult divorce, the loss of my parents, stepparents, and stepbrother, bizarre events significantly impacting the life of my child, and my own sudden-onset, life-altering chronic illness.

I live in Akron with my wife and our Doodle -mix dog, and am the mother of a neurodiverse adult son.
